Connect – no man is an island!

The weather is changing, birds singing, and tress and plants are budding—everything in our environment points to Spring and a change of season. This is exciting for many as it moves us into another phase of the year where we look to be outdoors, explore, and plan fun events. Even though our winter was very mild in the East Coast, other parts of the country still grapple with the impact of the weather and climate changes that had negatively impacted their communities.

Still, we all face the reality that each day we are rendered an opportunity to make a difference in every aspect of our existence. For example, think of a moment when you decide to call a loved one to simply say ‘hello’ and how this changes the your collective energy and day. Or, stopping for a moment when you see your neighbor getting out of the car and asking ‘how are things going?” Taking a moment to stop the frenetic pace of life does wonders for everyone, especially your spirit and your soul. To reach out to another, make a connection, share a good word or smile, changes everything in a moment. It can make a regular day spark, even if it is for a few minutes.

It is our sense of connection to others, being part of the community that we live in, that helps us stay focused on the present and the important aspects of daily life that we need to appreciate. Doing personal self-care is essential to help define each of our own integrity and values, and help maintain our hopes and dreams stay alive. This is accomplished often by journaling, meditation, prayer, and personal reflection. When we reach out to another, we extend our heart and soul to our community. We bring our light and love to those around us. We receive sometimes the same in return, or maybe less then we provide pending the void that exists in the other person. Regardless, when we extend our ‘self’ to others, our community, our loved ones, and strangers, we foster the integral energy exchange that keeps the spirit of life and hope alive. It’s like the budding of trees and sunshine granted us by the changing season. We grow and prosper in spirit and the connection helps ground us to each other.

“No man is an island” even when you are having a bad day, or don’t want to reach back or answer the phone. Regardless, our heart and soul are not made to be alone. We are more powerful and valuable when we connect with others, and become part of the whole of life around us. I challenge you to take this idea and use it each day during this new season. Slow down and take care of yourself. Reach out to another and spark the day. Enjoy and be brave enough to live your life as you wish to amongst others in your community.
