Over the past several months so much has been happening in our world – children are out of school and vacations are offering new experiences and enjoyment, forest fires are threatening nature and communities on the West Coast, mixed messages are continually erupting on all levels of government, international relationships are changing, and it appears that every time you turn around, the drug and violence in our communities is being highlighted —with the media giving only sound bites to bate our despair towards humanity . Sadly, even comedic relief is more biting these days, adding to general angst about “what is happening” and “where are we going?”
Nearly everyone I meet, including myself, is seeking refuge from the “noise” and force of this negative energy. It’s hard to be focused and mindful when the world around you seems to be so chaotic. I have recently taken my own advice (for a change) and would encourage others who strive to be more balanced in their daily activities to consider any of the following:
Listen to a different type of music and explore how it resonates with your energy and body.
Take time to sit with yourself and listen to your body.
- Focus your energy on your relationships in a mindful, non judgmental, positive, and loving manner.
- Be present with yourself. When you feel ‘off balance’ attend to it and look for the source of unease.
- Add something to your daily routine that you have wanted to do, and let go of something you don’t enjoy.
- Take time for self reflection and thoughtfulness about yourself, and give yourself permission to love and be loved for the person you have become.
- Trust your inner voice and accept it may be different from what’s expected of you.
- Avoid sitting for long periods in front of a computer or television. Take breaks from these resources to reflect and reconnect with your interpretation of the news and images your conscious and unconscious mind is being fed from these activities.
- Take a walk and feel the earth and air around you.
- Breathe. Taking a few deep breaths offers a sense of calm and ‘pause’ to recharge your focus and inner strength.
It is often hard in our daily life to stay connected with those we care about, including our own spirit. It is only when you take the time to listen and stay still that you can see more clearly where you need to be, and what you need to do. The constant bombardment of our senses by outside responsibilities and sources sometimes traps us in a negative cycle of thoughts. It is important to be mindful and take the time to step back, reflect, and choose the path for your journey towards fulfillment of your intentions and goals. Always remember, your success no matter how big or small can make a difference in the world around you. Keep your intention and vision alive, and bring your ‘self’ into the world to help make the changes we need to stay humane.
